Having decided to make her solo career in singing, Ciara first joined a girl group, "Hear Say" and soon felt that it was not her cup of tea. Leaving the group she teamed up with record producer Jazze Pha and signed with a record label, Sho'Nuff. Her first single, "Goodies" was produced in the new genre called 'Crunk & B style', a style that was first pioneered by Usher. The new word 'crunk' was formed from the words 'crazy and funk' and Ciara was the first female to sing in this genre. Her fans delightedly lapped up the new genre 'Goodies' number and made it an instantaneous hit. Thereafter the album with the same name, "Goodies" was produced by LaFace Records. Like its single, the album too became a wild hit topping all the album charts. Ciara had co-written “Goodies” along with Sean Garrett, the lyricist of 'Yeah'. The lyrics beautifully connect to and relate with women and their emotions, their energy and their empowerment.
During the height of her success in 2005, Ciara had appeared on 'Like You' from Bow Wow's album "Wanted" and 'Lose Control' from Missy Elliott's Album, "Cookbook", both singles climbed to the # 3 slot on the Billboard Hot 100.
